College Activities

Dance Tour

Each year our students are given the opportunity to take part in our organised dance tours. This not only gives them an insight into the utilization of different teaching methods used by other professionals, but also gives them the opportunity to put into practice some of the skills they have gained by offering support and coaching to the younger students within the Mandy Ellen School of Dance.

To date our students have danced in Italy, Paris, Dublin and even New York, where the students not only attended dance workshops with performers appearing on Broadway, but where given the opportunity to go back stage and talk to the performers and see first hand the work that is required to put on a Broadway production including costume, make up and scenery.

Shows & Competitions

A very important part of our students training is to allow them to experience, first hand, the thrill of performing on stage. With the towns theatre only two doors away from the studio, in the artists quarter, we are able to stage a minimum of three productions a year, both as an opportunity to show case their achievements to date but also as our contribution to raising funds for local and National charities. Christmas 2007 will see the first ever student pantomime.

Agencies are also invited to all of our shows so they can have the opportunity to see the students work first hand with a view to signing the students for future contracts.

Theatre Trips

Theatre trips are arranged on a regular basis; this is a fundamental part of the students training to witness first hand a live performance and what’s more enhance a sense of motivation.

Open Days

Every year the parents of all students are invited to attend the college to view the progress of their child. This gives the parents a better understanding of the students training and gives the student an opportunity to show their skills. At the end of these open days a student report is handed out, and the parents are given the opportunity to have a one to one consultation with the principal, to discuss in more detail the progress of their child. These open days are normally scheduled for the end of July.

Presentation Evening

All students are asked to perform at the schools annual presentation evening, giving them another opportunity to showcase their work. Each year students are recognised for their performance, during the school term, in each subject, and certificates are awarded in recognition of their progress, hard work and enthusiasm. All parents are invited to share this special evening, culminating in a party to celebrate the year’s achievement.

Overseas Students

At the Mandy Ellen School of Performing Arts we welcome applications from overseas students. We highly recommend that students visit the college, but appreciate that this is not always possible, so if you are unable to attend then a video of the applicant performing will be required along with a completed application form and current photograph.

We appreciate that finding accommodation when moving into a new areas can be a challenge, here at the school we are more than willing to offer potential students support in finding suitable accommodation and part time work where required.
